Every moment is a gift from God. Don’t waste or abuse it, or waste or abuse it of others.

I must confess, throughout my life, career & even in ministry I get a bit perplexed by people who are chronically late. I am not sure if it was by the way they were raised, maybe it’s a character flaw, maybe it is poor planning ability, bad habits, or just plan laziness, or maybe they not only do not respect & value other people’s time, but their own time either.

Being punctual is also biblical. There are many verses on being on time or early. Seeking excellence. Basically doing your best and letting God take care of the rest. We all know we all cannot be on time all the time. Life happens, & traffic is unpredictable. However, being habitually tardy, should not be acceptable, nor taught as acceptable. I believe we should strive to rise early, seize the day, and make the most of the time God blesses us with, in addition to respecting and valuing the time of others. May we take a look at some of those bible verses:

Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.” — Proverbs 6:6–11 English Standard Version (ESV)

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might,[a] for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going” — Ecclesiastes 9:10–12 English Standard Version (ESV)

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” — Romans 12:11 English Standard Version (ESV)

O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you[a] and watch.” — Psalm 5:3 English Standard Version (ESV)

Seize life! Eat bread with gusto, Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes — God takes pleasure in your pleasure! Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves. Relish life with the spouse you love Each and every day of your precarious life. Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange for the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one! Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, for there’s neither work to do nor thoughts to think in the company of the dead, where you’re most certainly headed.” — Ecclesiastes 9:7–10 The Message (MSG)

Some people may say, “Well Don, being late isn’t a sin.” Here is the thing, we live in a broken world, and born into sin. We are all sinners saved by grace. It is sinful not to respect other peoples time, and not to have enough respect for yourself and your gift of time. The bible says they will know us by our love. How are we demonstrating the love of others, the love of and for God by being habitually late. Not being thankful for each precious moment of priceless time the Lord has blessed us with, and the precious priceless time of others? Life is a gift from God, and so is every moment. Don’t waste or abuse it, or waste or abuse it of others.
