Life Lessons by Bro Marty

There are many things I have learned in my life. Whether it was from life experiences, education, my thirst after knowledge, trial and errors, or wins and defeats. Among those are the value of relationships. Deep rooted relationships, whether that is of a person I am dating, a friend, family member, or brotherhood. People may notice that the person I have a meeting with, a meal with, is the most important person or people in the room to me. My cell phone goes on silent, and unless I am on call, or expecting an important call, my phone is either turned upside down or put away. There is nothing more important for at least an hour of attentive, and engaging time than that person, or people in front of you in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I do not see this happening often in today’s society. Even when I am out and I see couples or families sitting at a dinner table in a restaurant, their faces seem often buried in their devices. Today’s baby sitter is not only the TV, but smartphones & other electronic devices. Please do not get me wrong, I like my tech. I leverage it, and tech is what I have done for an earnings most of my adult career. However, devices should never become a vice that separates you from a relationship, or building, and maintaining strong relationships. So may I make a recommendation and encourage you to put away those device away at the dinner table, or during a meeting. To monitor, or at least lessen, the time your children are in front of the TV, or on their devices, and invest attentive and engaging time with them. Look, life is short, and precious. We are not promised tomorrow. We have this gift in today, this moment, that is why it is called the present.
