Our First Love

Did you know that Jesus was referenced as our first love in the bible. That we as believers love him, because He first loved us so much, while we were yet sinners, He was crucified, and died for us.

The bible also shares in exclamation with, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” — Deuteronomy 6:4–7

And Jesus even stressed upon the greatest of all Commandments in Matthew 22:37–40, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

If we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength… It is to be just like our very first true love, or even more.

So, church, how are we loving Him? How are we loving others as ourselves? How are we loving Him, our First Love? Are we investing time with Him, learning all we can about Him? What are we doing for Him? What are we willing to do for Him, our First Love?

There is a revelation of this first love in Revelations.

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.” — Revelation 2:4–5 ESV

Church, America, have we left our First Love? Should we not be getting back to loving and adoring our First Love as much possible? If we want change… if we want blessings… if we want healing… how about we turn our hearts back to our First Love?!

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13
