“Strong Willed”

I have been a strong willed person since I was a child. Just ask my mom and dad, or even my biological brothers for that matter. I may be experiencing some “pay back” with my own strong willed children. (One I have nicknamed “Sassafrass”) However, although difficult to manage at times, I do not think being strong willed is a “bad thing”. If directed and guided appropriately after actions, ideas, & things honorable, moral and sound, it can be very good. Their “strong will” can make a measurable positive impact in their life, and the lives of others. They can make the best leaders, successful people, and changers for good. However, let them go wild without any moral compass, or thirst after honor, they can reek havoc in their lives, the lives of others, and spend more time in jail, than making a positive impact in their life and the lives of others.

Allow me to confess I have not always been right, nor to even to this day. However, there are people, places, things and ideas I am passionate about, ardently believe in, and love. There is very little that will distract or derail me from demonstrating my admiration or love for those people, places, things & ideas. I believe as a man of faith, that I am to act like a man, be courageous, stand firm in my faith, for what I believe, for those I love, for what is just, moral, sound, and for justice; even if I have to stand alone.

Some may not like that. Some may not agree with me. Some may get offended. However, as my “strong willed roots” will reply, that is not my problem, that is their problem, issues, or insecurities. Being offended is not the end of the world, a person(s) is not going to die, or bleed out by being a offended. Being offended will be a part of life, and a grown person will need to logically realize it matters little in the scope of life, living, or the big picture. Words are words, and they should not, nor do not define a person. A person is defined by their actions, deeds, and reactions. A person cannot please everyone all the time, in fact it is impossible. Look to do your best, what you ardently believe is best, and let God take care of the rest. Humankind was not created to be pleasers of humanity, humankind was created for a relationship with The Creator, and to honor Him, then everything else falls into place.

My children may be “strong willed”. I may have been, and still am “strong willed”, but I am “Jesus Strong” first and foremost.

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” — 1 Corinthians 16:13

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” — Colossians 3:23–24

but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” — 1 Peter 3:15
